Product Manager — Military Operations & User Experience
Bring the operator’s perspective into every screen. Turn firsthand knowledge of Army processes into clear, usable applications that help people coordinate logistics, medical transport, equipment support and power on demand.
Own the operational workflows and user experience across ASKA’s applications. Working directly with the founder, military users and the software team, you will discover how work happens, define what the product should do, create and improve screen flows, and validate the result with users. This is a hands-on product ownership role combining military domain knowledge, process improvement and practical UX. Production coding is not required.

Role ownership
Own the operational requirements, product priorities, workflow definitions, UI/UX direction and user acceptance of ASKA’s applications. Keep the product consistent across modules and remain accountable for closing usability and process gaps from discovery through delivery.
Key working interfaces
Reports to the CEO and works with Army users, ASKA operational and subject-matter specialists, UX contributors, software developers and test teams. Engineering owns software architecture, implementation, cloud infrastructure and technical verification. This role owns the user need, workflow and product acceptance; relevant specialists validate vehicle, power and medical-domain assumptions.
What you’ll do
- Interview and observe Army users to understand their current processes, responsibilities, information needs and recurring friction. Document both formal procedures and actual working practices, and validate differences across units and user roles.
- Map complete service workflows for logistics, fleet scheduling, medical transport coordination, equipment support and power on demand, including requests, approvals, resource assignment, status changes, handoffs, exceptions and completion.
- Define the information each user needs and can act on; specify required fields, terminology, units, permissions, data sources and validation rules with the responsible subject-matter experts.
- Create and directly revise user journeys, screen flows, wireframes and clickable prototypes using Figma or equivalent tools. Use AI and no-code tools where useful to explore and communicate improvements.
- Translate operational needs into prioritized requirements, user stories and measurable acceptance criteria. Maintain one current backlog, decision record and connected workflow documentation across the applications.
- Run usability sessions with representative users on desktop, tablet and mobile. Evaluate task completion, time, errors, training needs and user confidence, then turn findings into specific corrections.
- Work closely with developers through implementation, clarify tradeoffs promptly, review complete workflows and verify corrections against the agreed requirements before product acceptance.
- Identify gaps between modules, including inconsistent records, terminology, permissions and status transitions. Coordinate their resolution with engineering and data owners.
- Prioritize improvements by operational value, user impact and delivery effort; report progress, unresolved decisions and evidence of readiness to the founder.
- Support user demonstrations, onboarding and field feedback at Eagle Field and customer locations, with travel and schedules coordinated in advance.
- Own and continually improve product and usability evaluation methods with representative Army users: define measurable task-completion and error criteria, maintain user-acceptance evidence and verify that delivered workflow corrections solve the observed problem.
Required qualifications
- Typically 5+ years of relevant Army or defense operational experience, with firsthand knowledge of Army processes through military service or sustained work directly with Army units. Equivalent depth demonstrated through delivered work is considered.
- Direct experience in at least one relevant area: logistics or sustainment, transportation, maintenance or equipment support, aviation operations, medical transport coordination, or unit operations and resource scheduling.
- Typically 2+ years translating operational needs into software products, digital process improvements or user-facing tools, or equivalent demonstrated ownership of delivered improvements.
- Ability to map a process from request through completion, including roles, approvals, exceptions, handoffs and required information, and explain it clearly to developers and users.
- Hands-on ability to create and revise wireframes, screen flows and clickable prototypes using Figma or equivalent tools. Be prepared to discuss a non-confidential example and your personal contribution.
- Experience gathering user feedback, running usability or user acceptance sessions, defining acceptance criteria and tracking corrections through completion.
- Strong written communication, prioritization and follow-through; comfortable working directly with the founder, operators and a small development team.
- Enough technical fluency to discuss data, permissions, integrations and software limitations with engineers. Production coding and a computer science or engineering degree are not required.
- Availability for coordinated user workshops and occasional development and testing activities at Eagle Field Airport; work arrangement and customer travel will be discussed.
Preferred qualifications
Experience as a product owner, product manager, UX practitioner, military software user representative or operational process-improvement lead. Former Army NCOs, warrant officers and officers, and civilian professionals with direct Army workflow experience, are welcome. Rank is not a selection requirement.
Experience improving logistics, maintenance, scheduling, fleet or medical transport applications; familiarity with role-based interfaces, accessibility, limited-connectivity workflows and adoption of new tools. A portfolio of non-confidential workflow maps, prototypes or before-and-after process improvements is valuable.
AI tools and automation: Preferred: hands-on use of ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Microsoft 365 Copilot or equivalent tools for user research synthesis, workflow mapping, requirements and usability analysis, plus Figma or AI/no-code prototyping tools. Claude, Codex or Cursor experience is welcome when used to explore prototypes with the development team; production coding is not required. Provide a specific example, your contribution, any measured time saved or quality improvement, and how you verified the result. Equivalent tools are welcome.
We welcome transferable experience from related industries. You do not need to meet every preferred qualification. Tell us what you have delivered and how your skills apply to this role.
